What beautifull spiders!!!

Cant wait for mine to get bigger, I must say, by the way they are eating it wont be that long anymore!!

I love the little burrows they make, and it is always so perfect, I love just sitting and watching them go about their business!

I think it could possibly be a combination of lighting, iridescence and where it is in the molt cycle.

Here's a battered old male from a completely different region that wondered into the house. He died not long after. Even at this stage he was a little bit shiny.

I have found them in different areas in Limpopo province in SA, and they all seemed to differ a bit in appearance. I think the difference is the area they are found in. One can look at pics of other species like for example Augacephalus junodi and Ceratogyrus sp's. They are not exactly the same if they're from different areas. Ruan would vouch for this I am sure.

These specimens in the pictures differ from 2-4cm, but I have seen bigger specimens, and they are not duller with age as previously stated. We have Brachionopus pretoriae on the farm as well, and they too looked very different to, for example:

The ones I find regularly on our farm has a metallic green sheen to them:

I guess i just have the luck that these are found on our farm...... :happy:

Yep guilty as charged. I am absolutely crap at remembering to answer emails and PMs at the best of times however in my defence I have been working offshore with very limited internet access this last week and hadn't checked that particular email account until I saw this.

That's interesting to see the variation in these. Have you found any on the farm that have dull brown colour on the legs and a quite ginger abdomen like this one -

Finally got this mature female Harpactirella overdijki to sit still enough for a pic. These things are damn quick.


One can see the difference in color from the areas they were found. This one was found further up the mountain on the farm with different soil, hence IMO resulting in her being colored differently.

@ Marius: Very nice. I would love to get my hands on a few specimens from that area to document differences.
