Lol, thanks everyone! Unfortunately when I got home today Stumpy was dead as far as I can tell, I'll keep him another day or so to make sure.

@Meteor, I feel your sentiment, but if this was a R1500.00 P.metallica sling, would you just let it die? I would not, so why should I treat any other species with less care just because it's not as expensive or rare?

@ Stanley, I am so sorry, I wish I could have pulled this poor T through for use as a story in your book, that would have been awesome.

Sorry for your loss :( When I started reading this thread, I expected him to pull through, Fasciatas are tough SOBs.

Stanley A. Schultz wrote: Tarantulas that have received massive injuries often molt prematurely in an effort to regenerate missing limbs or heal faster. As soon as it molts again it'll have 8 little legs that (I hope) will be large enough to help it move around. Once that happens it'll be pretty much able to fend for itself.!

Glad you mentioned this, I found it really odd. My P.Fasciata after loosing all but 2 legs, ate its own leg, a 2cm hisser and 2 or 3 1/2size crickets and then molted. It then ate 3 adult male dubias and molted again, then 4 adult male dubias and molted again. 3 Molts in the course of just over 2 months if memory serves. His molts always came as a surprise since his abdomen was never plump like you'd expect before a molt. Here he is today:

Even freshly moulted females have skinny abdomens. :)
