Just saw 2 members asking for tarantula eggcases.
Quite a strange request?
Would anyone here be willing to sell an eggcase? Maybe something common like an albopilosum or rosea eggcase possibly, I would guess?
Who would buy an eggcase knowing that it could possibly be rotten or undeveloped?
After how many days would you sell the eggcase? How much would you pay for it (Obviously this will depend on species, but take for example a rosea and metallica)?
And lastly assuming you would have to collect it in person?

I know of an ex-member who bought some eggcases of rare species for a whole bunch of cash and ended up with curlys from what I recall.
The whole thing sounds very risky from a buyers point?

I have become interested in breeding of late, but this is not something I'd consider. In part, because of the points you mentioned, but also because I want the whole experience. Starting with buying slings, and raising them to the point where you have a viable breeding pair. This also prevents anyone from laying claim to the fruits of your labours and all the politics that goes with that.

It is a nice experience doing the whole breeding thing from start to finish, I agree.
I see nothing wrong with buying eggcases, just think it would be very risky from the buyers side.
I would assume that the buyer would not pay the full price eg. metallica could have 60 x R1200 = R72000? How much would someone pay for a metallica eggcase that is 10 days old? How much would someone sell one for?
There are lots of people out there that would try make a quick buck out of someone and can see sellers either selling eggcases as wrong species or else selling dud eggcases or rotten ones as fertile to make some quick bucks.

As a part time breeder, I could only see myself selling an eggcase if it was a really common species that I didn't have the time to hatch, pack and sell.

I'm not really qualified to be a part of this discussion, but surely the breeder can't charge full price. In the example of a P. Metallica, I would imagine R20 000 would be closer to the mark. The breeder would have to assume that some losses would occur, and selling an egg case is a lot less hassle than having to rear them and pack them, as you pointed out earlier. Even then, R20 000 is not pocket change, and the buyer is taking a big gamble.

It would be like buying Emerald Tree Boa eggs and ending up with Corn Snakes (Which are awesome but it will be a devastating loss) which is why we in the reptile community see something like this as a bad idea as there are to many variables that could mess the whole thing up. I fear I may be deviating from the topic at hand but you get my point I'm sure.

Doesn't make sense to me though.
the PZB egg sac had 232 eggs with legs. 130 first instars and 68 2nd instars.
I would not be willing to much for 232 eggs with such a low success rate. Yes, with a more experienced breeder more viable slings could possibly have made it, but there could have been 0 viable eggs or very few eggs with legs.
