It most definately can be hazardous, but think there are some interesting things waiting to be discovered by watching mommy interacting with spiderlings. Would I recommend it with maculata (Considering this must be the OP's first eggcase attempt)? Most probably not.
Pulling at 2 days may work better in this case.
