The only real problem I have with the report is the random biting and jumping. It makes no sense for a spider to attack a non food source unless provoked. Wonder if they jumped and bit any jeeps racing out?

It smacks of wholesale BS, and mass hysteria.

I also did some checking up and while I can't confirm that these are facts either, they do make more sense than "killer spiders" :

1. Only 2 people died during this incident
2. Both of them were not taken to hospitals
3. Both were (probably) taken to traditional healers (not a doctor)
4. Both were cremated - no autopsy to confirm cause of death
5. Other people taken to hospital around that incident had other animal bites (snakes etc)

So basically, there is NO factual evidence to confirm that the spiders actually were the cause of ANY deaths in that incident.

Like I said, I haven't confirmed these "facts" either, but it sounds more likely to me.

Its bloody annoying that almost every single article used some variation of "kill" "killer" "death" "poisonous" with "spiders", and its exactly that type of narrow-minded, uneducated reporting that has made tarantulas (and other fauna) the target of fear and hate for so long.

They sensationalize the story to get more readers. More readers = more profit. Take the USA as an example. 90% of their public are dumb as a rock and ignorant because they are misinformed by their media who sensationalizes EVERYTHING just for better ratings.

How often have you heard or read a story from the USA that contains the phrase "The world's most <insert just about anything here>"?
