I am new to Viola, we have one so far and will be picking up another soon. So my question is, do only the females get their colour or do the males get the colour too? If not at what size can you see the colour?

It's just the females. Males are quite drab looking.

females start showing nice color at around 8cm already

males will look a lot more red/brown at the same size. getting browner as they molt and will most probably mature in the next molt or two around 8-10cm.

Ok thanks guys so much for all your help! Our Viola is now about 4 to 5cm and showing purple, nice purple abdomen, that's why I asked, so would this mean its a female then? Thanks again for all the help!

Not necessarily at that size they look pretty much the same.

You might be able to tell if its a male by ventral sexing it, the male has a prominent white line/dot between the first pair of book lungs.

Put the spider in a clear plastic or glass container this will help to see, in the enclosure webbing and peat can sometimes make it a bit difficult so see.

Does the white dot count for all Lampropelma?

Recently bought a 8-10cm L sp Borneo Black. Tried sexing by epiandrous fusillae. Could go either way but there is a very distinctive white dot very low between the 1st pair of booklungs.
