Just wondering if anyone else has this problem...

What is the normal temperament of a B.vagans?

When we got ours it was about 3cm and was chilled and walked across our hands, no problem..
then it motled beginning of last month now I'd say its (next to a ruler and stretched out) about 5cm LS.. and now it is worse than an angry badger!! it flicks hairs like mad! at anything and everything! if I touch the tub NEXT to its, it starts flicking.. and try get worm shell or uneaten cricket leg.. forget about it! (the others i take out with my fingers.. but this 1 i have to use tweezers everytime and it attacks the tweezers!!

I would like to be able to handle it like we handle our emilia (who's a little bigger) but i do not want to get bitten.. or flicked at for that matter..

@tigerlilo LOL, sounds like my Brachypelma smithi, except he's 14cm.
When he flicks hair it looks like a little dust cloud!!!
He doesnt necessarily attack, just cowers away and hides. Perhaps its a Brachypelma trait. He was also pretty chilled when he was smaller.

Well... some spiders are ok with handling and some aren't.

If you want something for petting, get a bunny. I've got for sale at the moment :whistle:

its not just about handling.. it would be nice to clean it's tank without tweezers tryna be grabbed out my hand! lol..

From the reading I have done and the T's I have B vagan's can be quite fiesty. Mine is very skittish. I have read a few bite reports on B vagans. :whistle: I would not recommend handling B vagans unless you can identify how irrtable the individual is.

As for the B emilia - I have handled both of mine. My girlfriend (who was a thick arachnophobe) even handled the smaller B emilia. The one female molted the other day and has over 10cm legspan. She actually seem interested when I move or touch the enclosure (she will come out of her hide to see whats going on) She does not mind being handled at all.

If in doubt rather play it safe. It is a wild tarantula at the end of the day.
Some guys with loads of experience handle pokies(hell some pro's probably still get bitten).
