I have a university project starting soon and I have to write a software application as part of the project. Now the subject of my software application would be on tarantulas, though in future it can be extended to any other bugs

What I want to do is tie or join a whole bunch of resources on tarantulas together, and in the process create one uber resource with tarantula information. The pet part of the tarantula information, I think I can manage. However I need info on the scientific side and how it is structured. Does anyone here know enough about the scientific part to help and guide me. I have to use the proper terms and so on.

I am in Johannesburg, and I dont mind driving to where ever I need to be to get the info. Online is also an option.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Why not program software like the tarantula keepers record, with more functions. Like the option of highlighting in different colours. And the option for a person to add their own species name if not all scientific or latin names are on the db. It so happens one is able to edit the XML on "The tarantula keepers record" but then the dates on the software bugs out.

cool.. I'll look at the application, it could have some of the information I require.

I want to write a symantic web orientated application though, so I dont want to rewrite another application where people put in information (but that could happen). I have to get the language describing tarantulas (and other bugs) correct. That way, if I want to tie my sources to the spider venom database online I can link on say the Latin name because it was stated correctly. I hope I am describing this clearly enough. Point is, that I cant call it one thing when the rest of the world knows it by another name.

This will be an interesting project. Not sure where I'll end up, but I want to include it as part of my research too next year.

By the sound of it I think you need to personally contact the likes of Scarab and Frootbad, Stanley and Marguriete, RobC and Cerat. They will most probably be the right people to gide you in die right direction for alot of exotic pets. And then there is other forums like Arachnoboards and Sareptiles. I cannunt help much with the T's but I can put you in contact with some people that might be able to help.
