Good morning

I have 2 things i want to ask, My N Chromatus is emptying his water bowl every night! :blink: I fill it up next morning he spills it some how. It doesn't look like the water bowl is moved or anything weird all i can see is that the substrate is wetter than what it was and this has been going on for 4 days already. :dry:

Should i leave the water bowl empty or what do you guys and girls suggest? :huh:

Second thing is that he/she hasn't eaten in a week or so and busy excavating a little bit so i am thinking it is getting ready to moult. :lol:

Will this be the reason why he/she is emptying the water bowl? to get the humidity up?
I have learned over the first 2 months in the hobby that being overly paranoid is not a good thing so i am just asking if any of you have had this experience before?

Don't stress!

It should be fine if you fill up the bowl again after a week. Some species, especially Nhandu and Lasiodora, just love to mess with their water bowls!

My N. Chromatus also loves excavating, and the water bowl is always a casualty. It seems like mine tries to dig underneath the water bowl, thus spilling the water. They are ALOT stronger than they appear.

What I've done is place the water bowl on rocks covered with some substrate.
This prevents them from digging near the bowl.

Mine is also a fussy eater during winter, but she will 'play' with the crickets for a fortnight or so, and then suddenly become Daisy de Melker and go psycho on their little cricket butts the next day.

Beautiful T's, and definitely a very hardy species.

I've experienced the same problem with most of my Acanthoscurria species aswell,and Theraphosa including Xenesthis aswelll.Now I just add clean water once a week after I do spot cleaning and remove bolus'es from their enclosures.

I just figured if i keep adding water he would be living in a swamp in no time!

Does any of your N Chromatus fill there water bowls with substrate? It seems that mine just loves to do that and it is a mission to clean it every day

My C.fasciatum has always done this, emptying it out over night and filling it in with substrate.
My L. parahybana has obviously seen this and thought it fun, hence that water bowl is empty every morning too.
