The Avicularia versicolor (Antilles pinktoe tarantula), also known as the Martinique Red Tree Spider or the Martinique Pinktoe, is native to Guadeloupe and Martinique in the Caribbean Sea, but is a popular spider pet due to its docile character and unique coloration.
The spider's natural habitat is primarily Southeastern India and Sri Lanka. P. metallica was first discovered in a town in central southern India called Gooty. Hence, its common name is Gooty Sapphire Ornamental Tree Spider, or simply Gooty Sapphire.
Xenesthis immanis is a large theraphosid spider with a body length of 6 to 7 cm (theraphosids usually are referred to as "tarantulas", although true tarantulas are Old World members of the family Lycosidae). They have a red/purple star on the carapace, best seen on adult males.
