I now there is a couple of us on the site that own A. geniculata ..
I have A. brochlehursti (well that what it was sold to me as) .. So now its been brought to my attention that Both theses tarantulas species look the same wich is true.

so I have been doing alot of reading up and surfing pictures tring to find out wich one I actaully have and well the thing is the only way to tell is to look at there leg bands on there knees to tell the diffrence..http://www.atshq.org/forum/showthread.php?t=21368&highlight=Acanthoscurria+geniculata.take a look at this thread you can see the diffrence between these two Ts as clear as day ..

Also the male A brocklehursti looks completly diffrent to the male A geniculata

The A.geniculata has the wider leg bands. And then theA.brocklehursti has the thiner leg bands this is about the only info that shows the diffrence and makes sence..

maybe one day when every ones TS are bigger we can arrange a group meeting and match our Ts up and see what we all have

Pretty sure mine is an A.genic then.
I read somewhere a while ago that the A.brocklehursti has red setae on its carapace. Not sure it is true though as the pics in the link only differ by the bands on the legs

I also have a A.brocklehursti where the bands are a bit thinner to other A.geniculata juvi's I have seen. So if you don't see a diff then how sure are you that you are in fact not sitting with a geniculata instead of a brocklehursti?
When life gives you lemons, wing them right back and add some lemons of your own.

@ jones the only tell tale sign is the bands thats what makes it so hard to tell . Thats only one site I got the info from Im sure there is more sites out there with even more info more indepth study has been done ..

If im not mistaken also Sexing the cast skin can tell you what species it is ..

well thats the problem as well I have not found any info telling me how to tell the diffrence between the two if you have the same species and you cant see the diffrence

You will be able to tell the diffrence between the males as clear as night and day

As for the females Im stumpid .

No one has gone into a indepth talk about its mostly the same old suggestion check the leg markings unless we can find some who does taxonmy they should be able to find some thing well thats only a suggestion mite not even work ...

some thing else I found after surfing the interweb for 4 hours but still no hard facts ..

brocklehursti and geniculata, what is the main difference between the two?

They look very similar, the red in the brocklehursti is a little more vibrant, the leg bandings are a bit different, the brocklehursti seems to be more black as the genics seem to have a lighter undertone...I have 4 genics and 2 brocklehursti, we all know how well genics eat, IMO I think the brocklehursti are a little more "energetic" at feeding time, it has been said that some people think that brocklehursti are just a colour varient, either way they are very interesting spiders...
